MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook the province of Surigao del Sur on Sunday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 3:29 p.m. some 84 kilometers (kms) northeast of Bayabas town.

Tectonic in origin, the quake had a depth of 22 kms, the seismology bureau said.

Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said that aftershocks are likely but damage to infrastructure is not expected.
